Domestic Underrepresented Minority (URM)
Domestic Underrepresented Minority (URM) is based on all ethnicity categories and includes Black, Hispanic, Native American Indian, Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander.
First Generation
Beginning in fall 2024, first generation students are defined as students whose parents did not graduate from college with a baccalaureate degree. This definition is consistent with the definition used for Federal TRIO programs. Prior to fall 2024, first generation students were defined as those whose parents’ highest level of education is a high school diploma or equivalent per the National Center for Education Statistics, U.S. Department of Education.
IPEDS Race/Ethnicity
The category “Other” includes Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Two or More Races, and Unknown.
Low Income
Prior to fall 2024, the term “Low Income” means an individual whose family’s taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount. The poverty guidelines are published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Office of Postsecondary Education, U.S. Department of Education).
Military Status
The category “Veteran” includes active duty military, active reserve and veteran military statuses.
Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant Program provides need-based grants to low-income undergraduate and certain post-baccalaureate students to promote access to postsecondary education. Pell Grant Recipients receive grant amounts dependent on: the student’s expected family contribution (EFC); the cost of attendance (as determined by the institution); the student’s enrollment status (full-time or part-time); and whether the student attends for a full academic year or less. Students may not receive Federal Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time (Office of Postsecondary Education, U.S. Department of Education).
Student Athletes
Student Athletes include recruited scholarship players, recruited non-scholarship players, non-recruited non-scholarship players, non-recruited scholarship players who at any time during their undergraduate student career were marked as both a current participant in athletics and NCAA-eligible to play. Student athletes did not necessarily play a sport in their first year. Also included are cheerleaders, team manager/support and unknown/none sports.
